Current Projects

We are focusing on four major initiatives:

  1. The Star Barn Complex. We plan to begin dismantling The Star Barn Complex this summer and move it into storage until the new site is ready for our 1872-style Barn-Raising Festival. The Star Barn Complex will then be restored and utilized as a public building for events and educational activities. We will also establish a 100-acre Agrarian Park that will be used for outdoor festivals, shows, and events. This project will take approximately two years to complete. For details, go to www.TheStarBarn.com.

  2. Star Barn Thoroughbreds Farm. This is an existing Thoroughbred farm located next to the Agrarian Country/Star Barn main campus. This facility will serve as the beginning of our equine educational center; it currently includes a stallion station and broodmare foaling center. The Thoroughbred training center will be added this summer. We are also developing an educational program for the Star Barn Thoroughbreds Academy. We have acquired this farm through a lease-purchase agreement. For details, go to www.StarBarnThoroughbreds.com.

  3. Heritage Arts Center. This will be our first fully-operational educational center and will include a large multi-interest museum, 400-seat dinner theater, and restaurant as well as facilities for educational programs in the arts, portraying our agricultural heritage, legacy, and culture. This facility will take approximately two years to complete. A short-term initiative under the Heritage Arts Center is the establishment of Agrarian Country’s Fishing Creek Playhouse and Dinner Theater. We have entered into a lease agreement with the owners of a facility located in northern York County off the Fishing reek Exit (Exit 36) along Interstate-83. We will open the 2010 season in April with Oklahoma! In the interim, we put on a special agricultural-related Broadway review at the 2010 Pennsylvania Farm Show. The show, Broadway, Down on the Farm, was performed four times daily in the main exhibition building. The administration at the Farm Show said it was a huge hit and brought thousands of people to the show. Additionally, we have now opened our youth educational program called, STARS. It is for 3rd to 12th graders and will be focusing on the performing arts. For details, see the reverse side and/or go to www.FishingCreekPlayhouse.com.

  4. American Museum of Veterinary Medicine (AMVM).
The boards of directors of the American Museum of Veterinary Medicine and Agrarian Country recently announced that the American Museum of Veterinary Medicine will close its facilities in Birdsboro and reopen at Agrarian Country in Grantville, Pennsylvania (Lebanon County). The mission of the American Museum of Veterinary Medicine is to collect and preserve, exhibit and interpret the rich history of veterinary medicine and its contribution to American life for the public’s benefit. The collection includes more than 5,000 historic and rare books from the Roger A. Caras and Dr. Robert Shomer library collection as well as thousands of veterinary tools and artifacts. This is an enormous undertaking. AMVM board members will serve on the museum’s Management Council to ensure the proper care, exhibition, and interpretation of the collection. We will keep you posted as we move forward. For more details, go to www.amvm.org.
